Gok's Teens: the Naked Truth...

I’m an Assistant Producer working on a four-part documentary for Channel 4, on teenagers and their concerns around self-esteem and body image. The series will follow case studies of teenagers with these concerns, and highlighting issues such as eating disorders, obesity, sexuality concerns, young carers and teen mums. We will follow their stories and hope to build their self-esteem during the programme, with the help of Gok Wan.

We shall be exploring these issues in depth, how common they may be, why they occur etc. We shall also be picking up from our 'How to Look Good Naked' campaign, where we were trying to introduce body confidence on the National Curriculum. So, we'll be going into schools and seeing how these issues are discussed or supported.

It will be a very positive and investigative piece on teenagers and their main concerns.

Filming is due to take place from March until May (roughly speaking!) and we would film wherever the stories are - i.e. we'd travel to them. We are currently talking to people and initially meeting them this week and next for the initial casting. So, if there’s any way of helping us to find Young people who may be interested in getting involved, that would be great.

This is what we are currently forwarding for teenagers at the moment. I was wondering if this is something you can circulate to your members:

Maverick TV are looking for teenagers to take part in a new series for Channel 4 about their concerns around body image, with the help of Gok Wan. You should be willing to talk frankly and openly about your problems, which may affect you both physically and emotionally. Anything from eating disorders to concerns about your sexuality, to Young Carers with low self-esteem or teen Mums, we'd like to hear your story. If you are under 16, we will need your parents' consent before speaking to you. Please contact a member of the production team on: 0121 224 8362, text: 07539 437 303 or email: for a non-committal, informal chat.

If you are able to help, it really would be appreciated and if you have any questions in the meantime then please do not hesitate to let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
