Co-op to create 2,000 jobs for young apprentices

Louisa Peacock, Daily Telegraph, 9 June

The Co-op is to create 2,000 apprenticeships over the next three years as it attempts to give young people “proper jobs” with real career prospects. The places will be offered through a new £9m academy helping to equip under-25s with transferable skills and qualifications, the company said. Apprenticeships will be placed within one of The Co-operative Group’s businesses ranging from food, pharmacy and farming to funerals – thought to be a first for the UK.
