Make Wallace & Gromit Models and Beano Strip: 2-3 July

Make your own Wallace & Gromit models and create a Beano cartoon strip as part of Robert Harrop Designs’ 25th anniversary celebrations. The Birthday Bash will be held in the Mill Building at Jackfield Tile Museum, near Ironbridge over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd July between 10am and 4pm.

Known for their collectable figurines, Robert Harrop Designs make pieces from the world of books, films, television and comics including the puppet characters from Camberwick Green as well as Paddington Bear and Mr Benn, who is 40 this year.

The Wallace & Gromit plasticine modelling workshops will be hosted by Jim Parkyn who is currently working on an Aardman Animations top secret film featuring the much-loved duo. Morris Heggie, the Beano comic editor, and artist Steven Whyte will run the ‘History of Dennis’ Beano masterclasses. Take part for your chance to create ‘The Mill’ cartoon strip, which could be published in a future edition of the comic. Each two-hour session is priced at £10 including materials.

Other events at the Birthday Bash include a chance to see a new Camberwick Green Blue Ray DVD regenerated from the original 16mm film stock used in the show’s first BBC colour broadcast; it will be introduced by puppet master Gordon Murray’s daughter Rose. A limited edition figurine of Mr Benn, ‘The Gladiator’, will also be released to celebrate 40 years since David McKee brought the iconic time traveller to the world of children’s television. In addition, there will be studio tours to see how the figurines are made and a chance to talk to the sculptors and painters; entry into the Archive Gallery of over 1,500 figurines will be free for the weekend and there will be special Birthday Bash discounts in The Mill gift shop.
