Imagineer Productions seeks drummers for Godiva Awakes

Imagineer Productions are seeking experienced drummers, over the age of 15years, to take part in Godiva Awakes, part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Internationally acclaimed drummer Johnny Donnelly will hold an open audition on Sunday 24 July between 2pm – 5pm at Coventry University Students Union.

The successful drummers will form a drumming group who will rehearse together and perform as part of Godiva Awakes in July 2012, summoning Godiva and heralding the Godiva Carnival 2012.

For Godiva Awakes, Imagineer will create a ten metre high Godiva, who will awake in July 2012 to a spectacular performance and powered by 50 cyclists journey to London to play a part in the London 2012 celebrations. She will be a symbol of justice for the 21st Century embodying the values of fair play, friendship, respect and courage that are at the heart of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Kathi Leahy, Director at Imagineer said: “This is a great opportunity for experienced drummers to be part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad through Godiva Awakes and work with international drummer Johnny Donnelly. We hope as many drummers as possible come along to and audition to be part of the project.”

Johnny Donnelly is former drummer for ‘The Saw Doctors’ a Irish rock band who have achieved eighteen top 30 singles in Ireland including three number ones. He is now Musical Director for Aracana a world-class Global Specialists company who have composed pieces for the World Rally Championships, Red Bull Air Race, the ERC Rugby Cup Final, the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony and the Coca Cola Form and Fusion Final held at the Point Depot, Dublin.

Godiva Awakes is part of Artists taking the lead, a series of 12 public art commissions across the UK to celebrate the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Arts Council England is delivering the project in partnership with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Creative Scotland and Arts Council of Wales.
