Staff at leading West Midlands based Construction Company Shaylor Group have put their fitness levels and brain power to the test for charity and have raised more than £6,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Big Build appeal for a new Marie Curie Hospice for the West Midlands.

The money has been raised through a series of events which included a 10k walk through Shugborough Estate which raised £1,000, a charity football match which raised more than £2,000 and the company also took part in The Marie Curie Birmingham Brain Game event, a black tie corporate quiz dinner held at the International Convention Centre in October.

Stephen Shaylor, CEO of Shaylor Group, presented a cheque for £6,358.63 to Susan White, Birmingham development fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sephen said: “We are delighted to have raised so much money for Marie Curie’s Big Build appeal and we know that the new hospice will make a difference to many people and families with terminal illnesses in the West Midlands.

“We have all enjoyed organising and taking part in the activities which have enabled us to work together as a team and have fun whilst doing something worthwhile. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed - particularly Aston Villa FC, The PGA and The Fairlawns Hotel.”

Susan White Birmingham Development Fundraiser Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Shaylor for their efforts in raising this fantastic amount. Every donation to the appeal is a step towards the £7m we need to raise for the new hospice, and will help us to make sure that terminally ill people across the region, as well as their families, get the care and support they need for generations to come.”
