CIO v CIC v Charity v Social Enterprise Briefing.

A Charitable Incorporated Organisation?

A Community Interest Company?

A Charity or a Social Enterprise?

Dear Colleague,

This event is CPD certified

We are delighted to be hosting the forthcoming CIO v CIC v Charity v Social Enterprise Briefing.

Date: Wednesday, 14th September 2011

Time: 10.00 – 3.00pm (including networking lunch)

Venue: Anthony Collins Solicitors LLP, 134 Edmund Street., Birmingham, B3 2ES

Cost: £95 per delegate including a light lunch and networking

The Context:

This year sees the introduction of the charitable incorporated organisation (CIO), a brand new organisational structure introduced in the Charity Act 2006. A new structure added to the mix, to bring a corporate framework and charitable objectives together. The CIO is the first legal structure of its kind created specifically for charities.

This seminar will help identify what exactly is the difference between a Charity and a Charitable Incorporated Organisation or a Social Enterprise and a Community Interest Company? Which one would best serve your organisation's mission? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of being regulated?

• Kevin Carey, Chair of Royal National Institute for the Blind

• David Alcock, Senior Associate, Regeneration and Social Enterprise, Anthony Collins Solicitors LLP

The Event:

The morning session will allow participants to engage with the Big Society debate, and ask Kevin Carey of the RNIB what this means for charities and social enterprises and how all not-for-profits need to operate in a new way. The afternoon sessions will be highly interactive, allowing examination of CIO’s and CIC’s work and case studies of examples of current good practice.
