Councillor Mike Layland Worcester City Council’s Mayor for 2010-11 has announced that the charity fundraising account has now been finalised for his year as Mayor.
There will be a presentation at 4.30 pm on Monday 5 September at the Guildhall, when representatives of the Mayor's charities will be there to receive cheques.
Mike has been very forthcoming in how pleased he been to be involved during his year in office.
“I have been delighted by the amount of hard work that went into raising money during my time as Mayor. Many organisations and members of the public really threw their weight behind my efforts and in particular, the Licenced Victuallers, the Ladies Skittles League and the Rotary Club, all providing great support.
It is disappointing that money from street collections was slightly down, but I feel that this is a reflection of the current economic circumstances and only increase my desire to thank everyone who supported my charities during my year as Mayor.
Mike raised almost £18,000 during his year in office. £1250 each will go to the cadet forces in the City - the Worcester Sea Cadets, 2 Sector H&W Army Cadet Force and 187 Squadron (Worcester) Air Training Corps and £1000 will go to Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club.
In addition the Rotary Club of Worcester received over £3500 as their share of the proceeds of the annual Charity Dinner. The balance will go to Acorns Children's Hospice.
