'Much Ado About Wenlock': a theatrical tale of Olympian feats!

On your starting blocks! Vamos Theatre, in association with The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, brings its new show, 'Much Ado About Wenlock', to venues across the region in the run up to London 2012.

In 1850, the Shropshire market town of Much Wenlock hosted its very own ‘Olympian Games’, which was to become an inspiration for the modern Games. Behind this seemingly mild-mannered event, where country sports combined with spelling and knitting races, lay a modern day struggle for equality and the right to health, set during the tempestuously changing world of the Industrial Revolution.

In a captivatingly comic production that celebrates the Games’ unlikely UK roots, 'Much Ado About Wenlock' reveals a local doctor’s utopian dream and determination to improve the health of all the townsfolk, rich or poor. A glorious full mask show, with original music, amazing physicality, and dance choreography, 'Much Ado About Wenlock' is a hugely inventive adventure for audiences from 8 to 108!

Much Ado About Wenlock, has been granted the Inspire mark by the London 2012 Inspire programme. The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
