Let’s talk about trekking the Sahara

Would-be Sahara trekkers are invited to a special information evening at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice later this month.

The free event starting at 6.30pm on Monday, January 16, offers people the chance to find out more about the exciting charity challenge, in which participants will get to trek across the legendary desert and do some rewarding volunteering at a Moroccan Hospice, later this year.

The eight-day trip takes place between October 27 and November 3, beginning with a two-day experience at a hospice in Marrakech. Trekkers will roll up their sleeves for a spot of decorating and gardening before heading out across the sand, where they will sample the lifestyle and cuisine of the nomadic Berber people.

Funds raised through the trip will pay for care for people with life-limiting illnesses across Birmingham and Sandwell.

Organiser Alice Higgins said: “Anyone thinking of taking on a new challenge this year should seriously consider joining this trip. It will be a massively enjoyable experience and will make a real difference to people coping with a terminal illness at home and abroad.

“People who come along on January 16 to find out more will not be under pressure to sign-up, it’s just an opportunity to have a look and see what you think.”

People interested in attending the information evening, which is at the Hospice in Raddlebarn Road, Selly Park, Birmingham, should contact Alice Higgins on 0121 472 1191 or at alice.higgins@bsmh.org.uk.
