Young people from Solihull Music Service were invited to perform at the Cavern Club, Liverpool, as part of its 55th birthday celebrations.
The special invite came as part of the ongoing relationship the Music Service has with the Cavern Club - pupils have been visiting there for the past four years.
The concert took place on Monday, 16 January. Throughout the day, pupils from 11 schools across the borough performed 20 minute sets, followed by evening performances in the famous Live Lounge, including a 40 strong ukelele band, a jazz band, small piece rock and pop groups, finishing off with Soul Matters.
The performances were watched by Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Irene Chamberlain, and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Frank Pendergast. They, along with the 200 pupils, presented the Cavern Club owners with a giant 55th birthday card, filled with personal messages.
In return, each performer was made an honourary member of the Cavern Club.
Cavern Club owner Dave Jones said: "We have an ongoing relationship with Solihull Music Service after they started bringing pupils to visit us almost four years ago. We were extremely impressed with the musical ability we saw and since then we have honoured our commitment to fostering new music talent by inviting them back for our birthday. The Cavern Club isn't just about Liverpool's great music legacy but about the music of today and the musicians of the future."
Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Irene Chamberlain, said: “I’m thrilled that some of Solihull's brightest musical prospects had the honour of helping a club as famous as the Cavern Club celebrate its birthday. I really enjoyed watching the performances – it made me very proud to think these talented young people are from Solihull. Well done to Solihull Music Service and happy birthday to the Cavern Club!”
