One of the world’s most popular choreographers to be guest of honour at first Leading Ladies event of 2012!

Matthew Bourne, one of the world’s most successful choreographers will be guest of honour at the next Leading Ladies event on Tuesday 7th February at Birmingham Hippodrome.

Matthew, currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of his award winning dance production Nutcracker!, which runs at Birmingham Hippodrome from Tuesday 7–Saturday 11 February, is widely hailed as the UK’s most popular and successful Choreographer/Director. He is the creator of the world’s longest running ballet production, a five-time Olivier Award winner, and the only British director to have won the Tony Award for both Best Choreographer and Best Director of a Musical.

His dance productions include Swan Lake, The Car Man and Edward Scissorhands. Matthew has also choreographed the West End musical hits My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins.

Leading Ladies is a unique networking group for professional women created by Birmingham Hippodrome, combining business with show business. Leading Ladies meets every quarter at Birmingham Hippodrome and aims to raise £5,000 towards the cost of the theatre’s Stage Appeal. Launched in August 2010 Leading Ladies has over 50 participating companies from across the Midlands and offers not only a unique theatre experience but the chance to develop business connections.

As an independent, not-for-profit registered charity (No. 510842), without any public subsidy, Birmingham Hippodrome needs to raise an estimated at £1,137,000 towards a full stage replacement in August of this year following the run of Dirty Dancing. Since the last refurbishment of the Hippodrome stage floor in the early 1980s, more than 650 different productions have been presented with regular heavy usage of the stage, six days a week, over 50 weeks a year.

The event to be held on 7th February 2012 includes a pre-show reception, Q&A with Matthew Bourne and ticket to the performance of his award-winning production, Nutcracker!
