From 6-11 March 2012, Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena will play host to the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championship 2012, the premier event in the badminton world’s calendar.

The city centre venue will once again be opening its doors for six days of badminton, the world’s fastest racquet sport. The event will feature top international players who will be competing to gain the coveted ‘champion’ title. The very best will reach the final day, Sunday 11th March where there will be five high octane finals played over the course of the day.

During the course of the event Anglo-Scottish pair, Adcock and Bankier, will challenge their Chinese rivals to a re-match after losing to them in the final of the Yonex BWF World Badminton Championships last year.

Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork, another Team GB pairing, face a tough start against Thailand hopefuls Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul. The match will be the opening to their final qualifying event ahead of this year’s Olympic Games.

The draw for the Championships, to be played at the National Indoor Arena, is just as tough on England’s other contenders. Five-times English National men’s singles champion Rajiv Ouseph must face 1999 champion and fourth seed Peter Gade. Ouseph has never taken a game off the Dane in seven meetings in ranking events, having faced him most recently at in the World Championships.

In the women’s singles GB rivals Susan Egelstaff of Scotland and Elizabeth Cann of England could meet in the second round of qualifying on Championships Tuesday. Second qualifying seed Egelstaff starts against Indonesia’s Maria Febe Kusumastuti while Cann must take on Italy’s Agnese Allegrini. The winner of that quarter will go into the main draw to face Gu Juan of Singapore.

Tickets for the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championship 2012 are priced at £13 to £28 for an adult day ticket, £55 for weekend seats and £76 for tickets for the six days (all tickets are subject to booking and transaction fees).
