The Mailbox all set to serve up a slice of summer

The Mailbox in Birmingham is preparing to serve up a slice of summer for visitors by installing a new open-air tennis court on its ground floor!

In place from June 2nd until July 8th, the free court will be available for play from 8am-6pm on weekdays, and between 8am-2pm on weekends with tennis racquets and balls available from The Mailbox’s management offices. There will also be special beginner and children’s lessons as well as cardio sessions at selected times. Later in the summer the sporting theme will continue as the court is replaced by table tennis tables.

The installation of the court comes as part of The Mailbox’s partnership with the AEGON Classic tennis tournament, scheduled to take place at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Priory Club from June 11th-17th, with qualifying taking place on the 9th and 10th June. The annual tournament, featuring some of the world’s top female players, is one of the warm-up events before The Championships, Wimbledon.

New to the event this year is Ladies Day on Thursday June 14th, for which The Mailbox has teamed up with the AEGON Classic to deliver a stylish day out. Alongside the tennis will be activities such as cocktail making sessions, hair styling, a nail bar and the chance to win a diamond ring created by Vault 88 in the Jewellery Quarter.

Mel Evans, marketing director at The Mailbox, said: “The Mailbox is home to Birmingham’s most prestigious designer stores, and everyone knows sport and fashion are closely linked, so with 2012 being the biggest year in British sporting history we couldn’t help but join in!

“The tennis court is the first in a series of attractions we’ve planned especially for this summer, and I’m sure it’ll be a smash hit with visitors!”

Guests looking to guarantee their time on the court can book a timeslot in advance by calling 0121 632 1000. For those visitors who prefer to leave the sport to the professionals, the city centre destination has also paired up with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to schedule a series of free concerts later this summer.
