NSPCC appeals to Birmingham and the Black Country runners to go for gold

The NSPCC is appealing for runners to do something amazing for children this year and join the charity’s teamGO for October’s Great Birmingham Run.

NSPCC golden bond places in the event are up for grabs, so why not give your 13.1 mile run extra meaning by raising vital funds to help protect vulnerable children from abuse?

Previously named the Birmingham Half-Marathon, this exciting new event takes place on 21 October 2012, and it’s now part of the Bupa Great Run series.

The course will take you on a 13.1 mile journey from Birmingham city centre down to Bournville before doubling back and taking in the sights of Edgbaston Cricket Ground and Cannon Hill park en route back to the city centre and the finish.

Runners who join the NSPCC’s teamGO for the Great Birmingham Run will receive a pack which includes:

· Training advice from Olympic marathon runner, Liz Yelling
· Top-notch fundraising advice from a dedicated team at the NSPCC
· An exclusive NSPCC running vest with your name across the front
· NSPCC fundraising pack, regular e-newsletters and a support hotline
· Access to an NSPCC runners Facebook page to chat to team mates

Tracey Goodwin, NSPCC community fundraising manager for Birmingham and the Black Country, said: “Taking part in a half-marathon is a great experience and there is always an incredible atmosphere. By raising money for taking part in the Great Birmingham Run you will be helping the NSPCC to deliver vital services to help protect our most vulnerable children. Please help us by pulling on your trainers, donning your fundraising cap and helping to bring in the pounds for the NSPCC.

“If you’ve already signed up for the Great Birmingham Run but would still like to raise funds for the NSPCC, we’d love to hear from you so we can give you all the support and advice you need.”
