Women & Theatre is delighted to be developing a new strand of its Community Comedy Club work, this time delivering comedy courses with older people in residential homes.

Women & Theatre is working in partnership with three residential homes (Kerria Court, The Hawthorns and Carpenter Place), with residents and members of the local community, using comedy as a way of having fun, improving well-being and raising self esteem.

Women & Theatre’s Artistic Director, Janice Connolly has been delivering sessions in the homes working with participants to develop their own comedy material. This new material will be presented to local audiences at comedy events in the homes, hosted by Janice’s comedic alter-ego - Mrs. Barbara Nice, and headlined by a professional comedian.

‘The people taking part surprise me every week. The joy of it is to laugh together’ Janice Connolly, Artistic Director

This project has been supported by The Baring Foundation, The Rayne Foundation, The Cole Charitable Trust, G J W Turner Trust and The Grimmit Trust.
