Pupils’ recycling designs hit the big time

Recycling vehicles across the borough have been adorned with some eye-catching new banners – designed by local school children.

The banners are the winning entries from a competition launched by Solihull Council and REPIC last year.

Schools across the borough were invited to take part, with pupils asked to come up with designs around the theme of electrical recycling.

The three winners were Sarah Crane from St George and St Theresa School,
Lucy Cameron from St Margaret’s School and Griffin Beech-Webb from Castle Bromwich Junior School.

As well as seeing their designs displayed on the side of the borough’s collection vehicles, the three children have also won a £25 Touchwood voucher for themselves and £500 each for their school.

Councillor Mrs Kate Wild, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Well done to the three winners for their highly creative designs. The standard of entries for the competition was extremely high, so it certainly a difficult job judging it. I’m now looking forward to seeing these banners out and about in the borough, as I’m sure Sarah, Lucy and Griffin also are!”

A host of electrical items can be recycled at Bickenhill Household Waste and Recycling Centre, on Coventry Road (A45), B92 0DY. For more information, visit
