Southside star bids for Eurovision glory

Visitors to Eden Bar in Birmingham’s Southside district can expect the usual glitz and glamour this Thursday but with a live performance not to be missed!

This Thursday, 30 October, La Voix will take to the stage to film her first video for a chance to represent England and win a place on the Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

From 11pm onwards at Eden Bar on Hurst Street, drag artist La Voix and semi-finalist on last year’s Britain’s Got Talent, will perform her usual act followed by the live filmed performance of her never heard before Eurovision song, written by local resident and customer, Darren Hodson.

La Voix, also known as Chris Dennis, said: “Since Britain’s Got Talent, I have wanted to take part in larger singing competitions. It’s been an intention of mine to get drag as an art form back in the commercial mainstream market, and this is the perfect opportunity to do so.

“There are many stages to go but Birmingham has given me such great support since I started and I know the regulars will be supporting me all the way - I can’t wait to get the show started!”

Originally from the London scene, La Voix has spent 10 years performing at various locations including Birmingham Pride and Trafalgar Square, London. La Voix has worked with celebrities Cilla Black, Sir Ian McKellen and Ruby Wax and her most recent success includes winning the Gold award for Best drag act at the Boys Scene Awards.

Garry Prentice, one of the owners at Eden Bar, added: “Since March last year, La Voix has brought such excitement and enthusiasm to a Thursday night.

“Eurovision has a massive following here and everyone is geared up to show their support and even be part of the video. Eden Bar is a real community pub so it’s the ideal location for filming to represent our nation. We all have our union jacks at the ready!”

Julia Chance, Southside BID manager, said: “Birmingham’s Gay Village is renowned as one of the best nights out in the country. We wish La Voix and Eden Bar all the best in profiling the district on an international stage!”

Since opening in 2008, Eden Bar has become of the most well established bars in Birmingham’s Gay Village. For more information, please visit or visit
