Mayor attends Heritage Showcase in Castle Bromwich

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mrs Kate Wild, recently visited St. Mary and St. Margaret Church Hall, Castle Bromwich as part of Castle Bromwich Youth and Community Partnership’s 'Stories Behind the Headstones' project.

The project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has included researching the history of the Castle Bromwich conservation area and graveyard. As a result of this the 162 volunteers involved in the project have produced audio guides, interpretation panels, oral histories and an information booklet.

The event, on 11 November, showcased display panels with a timeline of Castle Bromwich, including key events and personal stories of individuals, old photographs of the area and visits up the church tower.

The Mayor said: “I am delighted to see projects such as this in the Solihull area as it is crucial we celebrate our own history. The work carried out by Castle Bromwich Youth and Community Partnership is informative and I know I certainly learnt some interesting facts.”
